BNB Smart Chain’s Maxwell upgrade has lowered block times to 0.8 seconds from 1.5. The upgrade aims to speed up transactions, improve DApps, reduce latency in DeFi, and enhance scalability. The hard fork went live on June 30, following testnet launch on May 26. Source: BscScan.
The Maxwell upgrade includes proposals to improve network speed and reliability. BEP-563 enhances peer-to-peer messaging, block proposal communication, and validator network stability. BEP-564 introduces new message types for faster sync speeds. BEP-524 reduces block time to 1.5 seconds after the Lorentz upgrade in April. Source: BNB Chain developers.
Developers and validators must prepare for the upgrade by testing DApps under tighter block timing and ensuring systems are benchmarked for 0.75 seconds. BNB price surged in anticipation of the upgrade, currently trading at $655.70, up 1.2% in the last 24 hours. However, it is still 17% below its all-time high of $788. Source: CoinGecko.
