Battery Ventures invests in climate risk-focused Descartes Underwriting, expanding shareholder base and company success.

Battery Ventures has made a premium investment in climate risk-focused managing general agent Descartes Underwriting, increasing the company’s shareholder base. Descartes CEO Tanguy Touffut highlights the company’s success in parametric insurance for climate-related risks. Battery Ventures partner Marcus Ryu, former Guidewire Software CEO, joins Descartes as a board observer. Descartes operates globally with 19 offices and 230 professionals, generating over $200m in total written premium. The investment follows Descartes’ launch of Descartes Insurance in December 2022.
