Walt Disney is laying off hundreds of employees in film, TV, and finance to adapt to shifting audience habits. The cuts affect global teams including marketing, publicity, and casting. This move follows a previous layoff of 7,000 in 2023 to save $5.5 billion. In March, Disney also cut nearly 6% in the ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks.

Despite layoffs, Disney’s recent earnings report in May surpassed expectations, driven by Disney+ streaming and strong theme park results. The company’s shares have risen by 21% since the report. On Monday afternoon, Disney’s shares were down 0.3% at $112.62.
