European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos stated that tariffs will impact euro zone economic growth and prices for years, but inflation is not expected to fall too low. The ECB paused policy easing despite projections showing inflation dipping below the 2% target temporarily due to a strong euro and low oil prices. De Guindos believes inflation will rebound to target, notably due to tight labor markets and union demands for wage increases. The euro’s recent surge against the dollar is not a major concern, as it has not been volatile or rapidly appreciating. De Guindos also downplayed the euro challenging the dollar as a reserve currency.
