The U.S. government has granted ethane traders, Satellite Chemical USA and Vinmar International, permission to load ethane on vessels bound for China but not to unload in China without authorization. This follows a recent licensing requirement on ethane exports to China, causing vessels to drift or anchor along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The administration may be preparing to lift restrictions, but uncertainty remains. Around half of U.S. ethane exports go to China, and the halt in flows has led to lower prices. Export terminal operators like Energy Transfer and Enterprise could benefit in the short term, but restrictions may impact volumes.
