ExxonMobil generated $340 billion in revenue over the last year but underperformed the S&P 500. With a market cap of nearly $500 billion, it’s the largest American energy company. The stock’s global scale and diversification make it appealing, but bears point to risks like volatile commodity prices and geopolitical instability.

The company’s revenue comes from upstream and downstream operations, totaling $340 billion in the last year. Financially, ExxonMobil generated $33 billion in net income and $28 billion in free cash flow. However, the stock has only returned 100% since 2015, compared to the S&P 500’s 246% return.

Despite its legendary status, ExxonMobil stock has not performed well and faces significant risks. While it offers a dividend yield of 3.6%, about half of the stock’s return over the last decade comes from dividends alone. Income-seeking investors might find it appealing, but others may want to explore different options.
