Economists were anticipating +0.17% on headline CPI m/m and +0.28% on core, but the actual numbers were +0.08% and +0.13% respectively. Despite the ongoing debate on the impact of tariffs, median inflation is running at about 3.5% and is not expected to fall significantly. While primary rents and Owners’ Equivalent Rent were softer this month, core goods inflation accelerated to +0.3% y/y. Some surprises included declining auto prices and rising medicinal drug prices. Overall, the CPI remains relatively tame, but future tariff effects could lead to acceleration in median and core inflation. Fed policy is expected to remain stable for now.
