France and China are close to resolving a trade dispute over Cognac exports. Talks have been ongoing, with proposals for minimum prices between $20 and $300 per litre to end the deadlock. The Cognac industry has faced tariffs since October, affecting EU brandy imports to China.
Negotiations between France and China are progressing positively, with hopes for a conclusion soon. The industry is seeking to lift blockages in the duty-free market, which have been in place since December 2024. A “minimum price commitment” is being discussed, with potential additional costs for products entering the Chinese market.
China delayed the conclusion of its anti-dumping investigation into EU brandy products, extending the probe by three months. The investigation, launched in January, aimed to address dumping allegations. The completion of the probe was postponed by three months to provide breathing space for the industry.
