Hot US Temps and Middle East Tensions Boost Nat-Gas Prices

July Nymex natural gas prices closed up +2.75%, hitting a 2-1/4 month high due to hot weather forecasts in the US. European gas prices also surged after an attack on Iran’s gas field and concerns about LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. US natural gas production and demand figures were reported by BNEF, with LNG net flows to export terminals slightly down. A decline in US electricity output could impact nat-gas demand. The upcoming EIA inventories report is expected to show a build of +96 bcf. Last week’s report showed a higher-than-expected build, signaling adequate supplies. Gas drilling rigs in the US saw a slight decrease after reaching a 15-month high the previous week.
