Lawmakers on the US House Agriculture Committee voted 47-6 in favor of the CLARITY Act, which establishes a regulatory framework for digital assets. The bill will be sent to the House for consideration, with opposing views due by Friday. The House Financial Services Committee debated adding protections for blockchain developers to the Act.
During a House Financial Services Committee hearing, members debated amendments to the CLARITY Act. Maxine Waters proposed changes to address conflicts of interest related to Trump’s crypto businesses, while Brad Sherman proposed prohibiting potential crypto industry bailouts. Chair French Hill defended the bill’s purpose of establishing consistency in the crypto market.
The CLARITY Act aims to provide clear rules for digital asset companies in the US, clarifying SEC or CFTC oversight. The Senate is expected to vote on the GENIUS Act for stablecoin regulation. The committee discussed the collapse of FTX and regulators’ responses. Waters’ and Sherman’s amendments did not pass, while Hill’s amendment for blockchain developer protections remained under consideration.
