Hyundai Motor and Kia Corporation are teaming up with the South Korean government to develop a next-generation digital tachograph for commercial vehicles. This device will automatically record speed, mileage, and location in real time using GPS data, streamlining data submission and compliance for transportation companies. The new tachograph is set to be integrated with Hyundai and Kia’s connected service platforms.
The two automakers, Hyundai and Kia, have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Transport and Korea Transportation Safety Authority to introduce the new digital tachographs in commercial vehicles by 2026. This collaboration aims to reduce compliance burdens on commercial vehicle operators and increase data submission rates through advanced technology and connectivity.
Digital tachographs are required by law in South Korea for commercial vehicles like trucks and buses. The next-generation tachographs will store, analyze, and submit data automatically through connected vehicle platforms.
