The Indian government is considering creating home-grown consulting firms to rival the Big Four, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign firms and enhance global capabilities. A high-level meeting on June 5, 2025, will evaluate the feasibility and roadmap for this initiative led by Shaktikanta Das, principal secretary to the Prime Minister.
The Big Four’s Indian arms have seen significant revenue growth, reaching Rs388bn ($4.52bn) in FY24 and projected to exceed Rs450bn in FY25. Government-related projects have been a key driver, prompting discussions on fostering scale, quality, and competitiveness among Indian consulting firms.
The government aims to build domestic consulting champions aligned with the vision of strategic self-reliance in key areas like tax consulting and digital governance. The upcoming meeting will explore potential policy interventions to support Indian players and recognize consulting as a crucial industry in India’s professional services sector.
While the Big Four dominate the market, India also has mid-sized players and domestic firms contributing to the sector’s growth. The move towards creating home-grown consulting firms seeks to establish a competitive landscape and nurture a robust consulting industry in India.
