In Q1 2025, Bitcoin ETFs overseen by institutional investors decreased, dropping to $21.2 billion from $27.4 billion in Q4 2024, due to an 11% drop in Bitcoin’s price. Professional money managers cut their Bitcoin exposure, except for financial advisers who slightly increased holdings, reflecting a shift towards long-term savings strategies. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust had its biggest outflow day on record.
Bitcoin treasury companies collectively hold over 1.98 million BTC at the end of Q1, up 18.6% year-to-date. Strategy, the leading Bitcoin treasury company, acquired 15,355 BTC on April 28 and has been accumulating BTC consistently. ETF flows in the first half of 2025 have been mixed, with macroeconomic news impacting investor sentiment. Rising bond yields suggest confidence in traditional safe assets may be eroding, potentially driving Bitcoin’s long-term upside profit.
