International Paper Company (IP) is a global leader in renewable fiber-based packaging and pulp products with a market cap of $24.2 billion. Despite a decline in shares of 24.1% from its 52-week high, the company operates across various regions and serves a broad customer base.
Over the past three months, IP stock has decreased 12.4%, underperforming the Dow Jones Industrials Average. Long-term, the stock is down 14.9% on a YTD basis and 1.6% over the past 52 weeks, falling below its moving averages since March and April, respectively.
International Paper reported Q1 2025 adjusted EPS of $0.23 and revenue of $5.9 billion, missing forecasts. The decline was due to weaker demand for corrugated cardboard and fiber packaging amidst inflationary pressures. Rival Packaging Corporation of America (PKG) has outperformed IP over the past 52 weeks.
Although IP stock has shown weak performance, analysts remain moderately optimistic, giving it a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy.” Currently trading below the mean price target of $56.14, the stock has potential for growth despite recent setbacks.
