LG Energy Solution and Toyota Tsusho form JV in U.S. for battery recycling

LG Energy Solution has formed a joint venture with Toyota Tsusho Corp. in the U.S. to focus on battery recycling. The JV, Green Metals Battery Innovations, will operate a plant in North Carolina to extract black mass, containing nickel, cobalt, and lithium. The facility aims to process 13,500 tons of scrap annually by 2026. LG Energy will supply scrap from EV battery production initially. The JV plans to create a closed-loop system for battery materials. The partnership aims to reduce carbon emissions through circular economy initiatives. LG Energy Solution’s shares in South Korea closed at 312.32 Korean Won, up 1.17 percent.
