Monro Inc., the second-largest automotive company in America, is closing 145 stores nationwide due to a $5.2 million drop in sales. The company’s president and CEO, Peter Fitzsimmons, identified areas for improvement to boost sales and earnings, including closing underperforming stores and enhancing customer experience.

Fitzsimmons, who replaced the former president Michael Broderick, outlined a plan to increase profitability and shareholder returns in fiscal 2026. Monro Inc. reported a 6.4% decrease in sales to $1.195 billion in fiscal 2025, with a net loss of $5.2 million compared to a net income of $37.6 million in the previous year.

The company has not disclosed which locations will be closing. Monro Inc. operates over 1,300 locations, with more than 1,200 owned by the company and 48 franchised. Brands include Monro Auto Service and Tire Centers and Mr. Tire Auto Service Centers.

Monro Inc. also plans to sell its headquarters in Rochester, New York, after announcing the closure of 145 stores across the U.S. The company’s founder, Chuck August, started Monro after a dispute with Midas Muffler and named his stores Monroe, dropping the “e” for visual appeal.
