Maple Donuts acquired by PE firm Swander Pace Capital

Maple Donuts, a US frozen bakery products manufacturer, has been acquired by private-equity firm Swander Pace Capital. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Founded in 1946, Maple Donuts produces private-label doughnuts and offers ready-to-sell and ready-to-finish products for retail and foodservice channels.

Swander Pace Capital’s acquisition of Maple Donuts marks their 15th investment in the bakery sector. Partners Capital and Constitution Capital Partners are co-investors in the transaction. The Burnside family, who founded Maple Donuts, sees the partnership with Swander Pace Capital as a way to enhance growth and expand product offerings.

Maple Donuts executives express confidence in the new partnership, stating that the company is in good hands for the next chapter. Swander Pace Capital, known for investing in consumer staples in the food industry, aims to establish Maple Donuts as a value-added partner to its customers. The private-equity firm has a history of acquiring bakery businesses like Boulangerie St. Méthode and Café Valley.

In a recent move, Café Valley, a bakery asset of Swander Pace Capital, acquired Freed’s Bakery, a manufacturer of iced mini cupcakes. Tyler Matlock, managing director at Swander Pace Capital, emphasizes the firm’s commitment to seeking investment opportunities in the bakery category. The goal is to further solidify Maple Donuts’ position as a trusted partner in the industry.
