May home sales increase slightly, but prices reach new record high.

Sales of previously owned homes in May rose slightly by 0.8% to 4.03 million units, below analyst predictions of a 1% decline. Sales were strongest in the Northeast, rising 4.2%, but fell in the West by 5.4%. The median home price reached a record high of $422,800, with 28% selling above list price.
