The Motor Ombudsman has updated its four Motor Industry Codes of Practice to reflect changes in the UK automotive sector, with a focus on electric vehicles, self-driving technology, and new retail models. The revisions, effective immediately, aim to keep pace with consumer expectations and technological advancements in the industry.
These changes were made following consultations with Motor Ombudsman-accredited businesses and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. The updated Codes now include provisions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), roadside assistance, warranty coverage, insurance products, technician training for alternatively fuelled vehicles, and manufacturer agency models.
Over 7,500 UK vehicle retailers and repairers, 46 manufacturers, and 21 warranty providers are currently signed up to the Codes. They have received online training and resources to support the implementation of the updated requirements. The Motor Ombudsman aims to ensure that guidance remains relevant in the evolving automotive landscape as the industry transitions away from internal combustion engines.
