Nasdaq, in partnership with QCP, Primrose Capital Management, and Digital Asset Holdings, has introduced a blockchain-integrated margin and collateral management solution for the OTC crypto market. This innovation aims to institutionalize the digital asset ecosystem and reshape capital markets.
The blockchain-based solution automates margin calls and collateral movements in real-time, addressing operational risks and settlement delays in OTC crypto derivatives. Developed on Nasdaq’s Calypso platform and the Canton Network, it enhances end-to-end operations efficiency.
This technology tackles counterparty credit risk and inefficient capital allocation, enabling institutions to engage more deeply in OTC crypto markets. By providing a 24/7 margin and collateral regime with real-time visibility, it optimizes capital deployment and resolves trapped capital issues.
The integration of stablecoins and tokenized traditional assets as collateral is facilitated by this blockchain-based solution. It offers trusted infrastructure for managing these assets in real-time, making them more accessible for institutional risk management systems.
Trust and network validation are crucial in this new infrastructure, with Nasdaq serving as a validator on the Canton Network. This partnership enhances integrity and assurance, signaling to institutions the network’s high standards of governance and security.
This partnership with Nasdaq forms the foundation for QCP’s digital asset innovation roadmap. It enables the development of new OTC spot and derivatives products, positioning digital assets as a core part of institutional balance sheets.
Over the next 12-18 months, the ecosystem is expected to experience increased institutional participation, market liquidity, and product innovation. The technology mitigates counterparty risk, unlocks capital efficiency, and enables the introduction of more complex structured products, creating a safer and more mature market.
