Swiss solar panel manufacturer Meyer Burger Technology’s German subsidiaries, Meyer Burger (Industries) and Meyer Burger (Germany), have started insolvency proceedings due to unsuccessful restructuring efforts in Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The Bitterfeld-Wolfen facility employs 331 people, and Hohenstein-Ernstthal employs 289. Efforts to keep the facilities operational will continue with a provisional insolvency administrator. Meyer Burger (Switzerland) and Meyer Burger (Americas) will be retained, but the US production facility in Goodyear, Arizona, has closed, impacting 282 employees. Discussions are ongoing with bondholders regarding restructuring. The closure of the German facility in Freiberg in 2024 aimed to prevent further losses in Europe.
