Spain’s BBVA Advises Wealthy Clients Invest 7% Into Crypto

Spain’s BBVA bank advises affluent clients to invest 3-7% of their portfolio in crypto, including Bitcoin. Clients receptive to advice, boosting performance with minimal risk. BBVA ahead of most banks, offering crypto trades since 2021 and active advisory since late 2024. Regulatory approval in Spain for Bitcoin and Ether trading.

BBVA launches phased rollout of crypto offerings to select clients, with plans to allow users to buy, sell, and manage digital assets through mobile app. Expansion into crypto coincides with full implementation of MiCA regulation in Europe at end of 2024. EU crypto companies have until July 2026 to comply with MiCA requirements.

Santander bank also entering the crypto space, considering issuance of its own stablecoin. Expansion of retail crypto services in the works, with potential offering of dollar and euro-pegged stablecoins. Other banks following suit in offering select crypto trading services to customers.
