Over 70% of UK motorists are open to buying cars from emerging Chinese manufacturers, as per Startline’s June Used Car Tracker. BYD is the most recognized brand among potential buyers, with Maxus and Chery following. Concerns include quality, parts availability, and support, but overall receptiveness to Chinese cars is high.
Startline Motor Finance CEO noted the challenge of differentiation for Chinese brands in the UK market. Despite consumer concerns about quality and support, significant interest in Chinese cars is evident. Established brands still hold preference for 18% of respondents, while 11% have quality concerns and 7% prefer British manufacturers.
A survey by APD Global Research for Startline’s Used Car Tracker involved 301 consumers and 66 dealers, shedding light on market trends. Startline Motor Finance also secured a £475m credit facility from JP Morgan this year. The company offers near-prime financing solutions to top UK car dealers and independent retailers.
