Sunnova files for bankruptcy on residential solar woes

Residential solar panel installer Sunnova Energy has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US due to mounting debt and weakening demand. This makes Sunnova the second company in the industry to file for bankruptcy this month. The company has entered agreements to sell assets to Atlas SP Partners and Lennar Homes for $15 million and $16 million respectively. Sunnova listed its assets and liabilities in the range of $10 billion to $50 billion, with total debt of $10.67 billion. The company also plans to lay off 55% of its workforce and had a partial loan guarantee canceled by the Trump administration.
