H&M-backed Syre to supply recycled polyester to Gap and Target in response to growing demand for sustainable fashion. Syre plans to produce 3 million metric tons of polyester by 2032. Gap to use 10,000 tons annually, while Target will incorporate recycled polyester into some products. Syre aims to accelerate circular fashion industry progress.
Syre CEO Dennis Nobelius states a commercial agreement will be reached over time. The company produces a polyester chip for partner companies to spin into thread. Gap’s Vice President of Global Sustainability Dan Fibiger highlights partnership benefits. Syre raised $100 million last year for U.S. factory and plans for additional plants in Vietnam.
Syre’s U.S. factory expected to produce 10,000 tons of recycled polyester annually by 2026. Vietnam plant construction set for 2027 with goal of producing 150,000 to 250,000 tons of polyester. Houdini commits to sourcing 50% of its polyester from Syre for three years. Syre continues to expand its sustainable textile production.
