Transportation pricing grows faster than capacity again in May

In May, transportation metrics remained largely stable, with capacity, utilization, and pricing showing expansion. Capacity was tight for upstream companies but expanded for downstream retailers. Transportation prices continued to rise significantly, outpacing capacity for the 13th consecutive month. Inventory costs increased, while inventory levels slowed, potentially signaling trouble for the economy. The overall Logistics Managers’ Index rose to 59.4, driven by higher transportation prices and supply chain costs. Warehouse capacity remained neutral, while warehouse utilization and prices increased. Respondents expect higher inventories, tight capacity, and cost expansion in the coming year.
