Geary’s Bakery opens new £36m plant in Leicester to meet sourdough demand, creating 380 jobs. The facility will double production capacity, with the first phase operational and the second to launch in September. Fourth largest UK bread brand, Geary’s flagship Jason’s Sourdough, has doubled sales in the past year, accounting for half of the group’s turnover. The company sold a majority stake to the Unsworth family in November 2019 and supplies major retailers like Aldi and M&S. Geary’s plans to reach 950 employees by year-end, investing in apprenticeships and lead bakers.
