Unusual Machines (UMAC) has agreed to acquire Rotor Lab, an Australian electric motor manufacturer, in a $7M all-stock deal. Rotor Lab specializes in high-performance motors for commercial and defense drones, with products ranging from small UAS units to motors for larger platforms. The acquisition is expected to close pending customary conditions. The two companies have been collaborating on motor development for nearly a year, with plans to produce motors at Unusual Machines’ new U.S. factory in Florida.
The acquisition of Rotor Lab by Unusual Machines will allow the companies to expand their motor production capabilities and enhance supply chain resiliency. Rotor Lab, known for its precision-wound electric motors, will continue operations in Canberra as Unusual Machines’ engineering center for motor design and production. The deal, valued at $7M, is set to be finalized pending regulatory approvals and an employment agreement with Rotor Lab’s CEO, Andrew Simpson. The partnership between the two companies has already yielded successful collaborations on motor development, with production set to begin at Unusual Machines’ new U.S.-based factory in September 2025.
