Lummis made these comments during a discussion on tensions between the US and China, amidst Trump administration’s trade wars. Trump’s tariffs targeted China, with a temporary trade deal reached later to ease tensions. Trump aims to make the US the global crypto hub, warning of China’s potential dominance in the industry.

China has banned crypto activities since 2021 but remains invested in blockchain technology, including its digital yuan project. US Vice President JD Vance emphasizes Bitcoin’s geopolitical significance at Bitcoin 2025, stressing the need for US leadership in the crypto industry for competitiveness in digital finance.
