Valio plans to close the fava-beans factory acquired from Raisio and shift production to another facility. The Kauhava site will close by year-end, affecting 11 employees. Valio aims to enhance efficiency and profitability. The company will offer jobs to affected workers and shift production from Vantaa to Joensuu.

Valio will relocate production of plant-based products to Joensuu over the next few years. The move will utilize existing resources and achieve synergies. When the sale of Härkis and Beanit brands was announced, Raisio reported a decrease in net sales in 2024. Valio aims to leverage expertise in innovative plant-based products.

The Joensuu factory, employing around 200 people, produces a third of Valio’s cheeses. Main products include Valio Polar and Salaneuvos cheeses, Viola cream cheeses, and milk powders. The facility will begin manufacturing cheese slices from the Vantaa factory and later produce MiFU and Oddlygood Veggie products. Valio is owned by Finnish dairy farms and has 4,200 employees.
