Vera Bradley, a fashion and handbag retailer, named Martin Layding as its new CFO, part of a larger executive leadership overhaul. Layding replaces Michael Schwindle, stepping down effective Thursday. The company reported a net loss of $18.3 million for its fiscal first quarter and suspended forward guidance for future strategic planning.

Layding, a former Coach and Proctor & Gamble executive, will receive a base salary of $475,000 as CFO, along with various short and long-term incentive awards. He is known for driving operational transformation and scaling businesses. The company aims to improve profitability and performance under the new leadership team.

Incoming executive chairman Ian Bickley praised Layding’s track record in operational transformation. Both executives have extensive experience at Coach, with Bickley serving as president of Coach International for 11 years. Layding held various CFO roles before departing in 2018. The reconstituted leadership team will focus on refining strategy and driving operational efficiencies.

Vera Bradley’s board is undergoing changes as well, with Robert Hall stepping down as chair to serve as a director. A Strategy and Transformation Committee has been created to shape the company’s strategic direction and growth initiatives. The company did not provide further comments beyond its press release.
