Altri SGPS invests in AeoniQ for sustainable textiles, building biodegradable yarn production facility.

Altri makes a significant investment in AeoniQ to develop sustainable textiles, aiming to replace traditional polyester and nylon with biodegradable cellulosic filament yarn. The joint venture combines Altri’s industrial capabilities with HeiQ’s technological expertise. AeoniQ’s yarns are certified biodegradable and offer natural elasticity and durability, reducing CO2 emissions compared to polyester.

The first industrial-scale AeoniQ facility will be built at Altri’s Caima pulp mill in Portugal, with construction starting in 2026. A pre-industrial plant will be established for prototyping. AeoniQ’s yarn has been featured in capsule collections by Hugo Boss and Lameirinho’s “vegan silk” bed linen line. Global entities have invested in the joint venture to transform the textile ecosystem.

Altri CEO José Soares de Pina sees the investment as a strategic move towards next-generation materials, aligning with the goal of a more renewable world. HeiQ CEO Carlo Centonze emphasizes the transformation of AeoniQ into a global production platform, offering a sustainable textile solution. The acquisition aligns with Altri’s commitment to sustainable operations and bioeconomy principles. The completion of the acquisition is expected by Q3 this year.
