Athena Resources partners with Warradarge Energy and Fenix Resources to create Mid West green iron project in Western Australia. The project aims to produce green iron using carbon-neutral energy sources like green hydrogen, reducing carbon emissions by up to 90%. The parties have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on project planning.

The new company, Mid West Green Iron, will be formed with equal shareholdings between the partners. The Byro magnetite project, capable of producing a 70% Fe grade concentrate, will supply high-grade magnetite concentrate for the green iron project. The project will be developed in three stages: validation, demonstration, and commercial production.

Athena’s managing director, Peter Jones, highlights the unique ability of the Byro magnetite project to provide ultra-high-grade concentrate products for regional green iron development. The validation phase, expected to conclude by the end of 2026, will involve testing magnetite concentrate samples from the Byro project. Successful demonstration will lead to full-scale production with the potential for additional project partners and funding agreements.
