Carrier India is suing India over electronic waste rules, along with other global companies.

Carrier India, a unit of Carrier, is suing Prime Minister Modi’s government over electronic waste rules that have increased fees for manufacturers. Samsung, LG, Daikin, and Voltas have also filed suits, seeking to overturn the rules. India is the third-largest generator of e-waste globally, with only 43% recycled last year. The government set a higher floor price for recycling, causing manufacturers to protest. Carrier argues that this places an unfair financial burden on producers. The new rules mandate a minimum payment of 22 rupees per kilogram for recycling, still lower than in the U.S. Carrier reported $248 million in sales last year in India.
