China Accelerates EV Charging Infrastructure with 100,000 Ultra-Fast Chargers
China announced a plan to build 100,000 ultra-fast public EV chargers by 2027, aiming to support the growing number of EV drivers. Electric car sales in China surged by nearly 40% in 2024, reaching over 11 million. By 2030, pure electric cars are expected to account for over half of all vehicles in China.
The plan involves smarter and faster charging stations using dynamic pricing and renewable energy sources. The focus is on improving access, reducing wait times, and ensuring charging networks are open to all drivers. Major automakers like BYD, Geely, Li Auto, and Tesla are racing to roll out fast chargers to meet the increasing demand.
Li Auto is scaling up its super-charging sites, aiming to double the number of stations by the end of the year and cover 90% of China’s major routes by 2025. Tesla introduced V4 Superchargers in China, capable of adding 200 miles of range in 15 minutes. The race is on to eliminate charging pain points and set a global standard for EV adoption.
