Cotton futures closed lower on Thursday, down 24 to 29 points due to pressure from outside markets. The US dollar index rose to $99.835, while crude oil futures dropped 78 cents per barrel. Export Sales report revealed 39,124 RB of old crop cotton sold, with Vietnam as the top buyer. New crop sales were 71,683 RB, with Vietnam leading at 27,400 RB. Shipments hit a 3-week high at 230,949 RB, with Vietnam and Turkey as top destinations. ICE cotton stocks remained steady on 7/30. The Cotlook A Index fell 60 points to 78.20 cents on July 30. USDA’s AWP dropped 43 points to 54.52 cents/lb. Oct 25 Cotton closed at 65.61, down 29 points, Dec 25 Cotton closed at 67.25, down 25 points, Mar 26 Cotton closed at 68.6, down 24 points.
