The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reports a 13.2% decrease in new EU van registrations, with Germany, France, and Italy experiencing notable declines. Spain, however, saw an 11.2% increase. EU truck registrations also dropped by 15.4%, with heavy-truck and medium-truck segments affected. Major markets faced double-digit percentage reductions.

Despite a decrease in overall vehicle registrations, there are shifts in fuel type preferences among buyers. Diesel-powered vans remain dominant but saw a decline in market share. Electrically chargeable vans increased their market share, while hybrid vans remain a smaller portion. The truck market is still dominated by diesel, despite gains in electrically chargeable trucks.

The bus sector also saw reduced demand, with electrically chargeable bus registrations increasing. Hybrid-electric buses declined, while diesel buses remain predominant. ACEA notes a challenging commercial vehicle market in H1 2025, with significant registration declines in key markets. The growth of electrically chargeable vehicles is hindered by a lack of essential enabling conditions.
