FedEx Freight is postponing the enforcement of new freight classification rules until Dec. 1. The National Motor Freight Traffic Association updated its classification ratings to a density-based system, aligning costs with pricing. Shippers must understand their shipments’ dimensions for accurate pricing, with FedEx Freight allowing customers more time to adjust.

FedEx Freight advises shippers to accurately record shipments’ density, weight, and dimensions due to the new classification rules. Incomplete details on a bill of lading may result in future charges. The carrier may apply an inspection surcharge for shipments with incomplete or inaccurate information.

While FedEx Freight delayed enforcement, they encourage customers to start using the updated class rules now. The company aims for a smooth transition to the new NMFC classes, allowing customers to adopt the changes early if desired. Shippers are urged to adapt to the new regulations for seamless operations.
