US group Ferrara Candy Company’s holding company is in exclusive talks to acquire French confectioner CPK Group, known for brands like Carambar and Lutti. The proposed deal, subject to employee consultations, is expected to close in the fourth quarter pending regulatory approvals. CPK was established in 2017 after acquiring 14 brands from Mondelez International. Ferrara, which operates under the same ultimate control as Ferrero Group, has a presence in over 40 countries and is behind popular brands like Brach’s and Nerds. The acquisition would combine CPK’s European confectionery market strength with Ferrara’s sugar confections portfolio. In the past two years, Ferrara has made significant acquisitions, including US confectioner Jelly Belly Candy Company and Brazilian snacks business Dori Alimentos. Last week, Ferrero confirmed a $3.1bn deal to buy US-based breakfast cereals business WK Kellogg, covering brands like Froot Loops and Special K. WK Kellogg was spun-off from parent Kellogg in 2023, which split into two separate companies. The other half of Kellogg, Kellanova, is undergoing a $36bn takeover by Mars.
