Ford and General Motors saw surging sales in the second quarter, fueled by panic buyers trying to beat impending tariffs. Ford reported a 14% increase in sales, with F-Series, Ranger, and Maverick pickups leading the way. GM’s sales rose 7%, with record numbers of crossovers sold. However, overall auto sales have slowed, dropping to 15 million in June. The looming threat of price hikes due to tariffs may further impact sales, with estimates of a $5,700 increase in imported car costs. Ford and GM’s South Korean rivals also reported strong sales. GM’s electric Hummer SUV sales surged, bucking a trend of slumping EV sales.
