Joby Aviation is expanding its manufacturing capacity at facilities in California and Ohio, doubling space to 435,500 square feet in Marina, California. They acquired a USPS facility in Dayton International Airport to jump-start production at a $500 million air taxi manufacturing plant. The company invested $15 million in property and equipment in the first quarter.

Once the Marina site is fully operational, it is expected to produce up to 24 aircraft a year. The facility will house Joby’s certified full-motion flight simulator and provide capabilities for pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and FAA production certification. This certification will enable the company to get FAA’s approval to operate an aircraft in flight.

The Dayton facility will manufacture and test aircraft components for Joby’s pilot production line. Equipment is being installed to establish the required FAA production certification capabilities, with production ramping up to build up to 500 aircraft per year. Joby’s partnership with Toyota Motor Corp., its largest shareholder, has enabled the eVTOL maker to scale its air taxi production. Toyota initially invested $400 million in Joby in 2023 and plans to invest an additional $500 million to support Joby’s certification and commercial production.
