OpenAI partners with Oracle for a 4.5 gigawatt expansion to power AI development, increasing Stargate’s total pipeline to over 5 GW. CEO Sam Altman plans to surpass the $500 billion commitment announced in January, aiming to power over 2 million AI chips. Elon Musk also unveils ambitious plans for xAI.

Musk’s xAI aims to have 50 million units of H100 equivalent-AI compute online within 5 years, representing 500 times the power of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer a year ago. Colossus 2 supercomputer will use 550,000 GB200 chips. Musk’s plan, if realized, would be nearly 10x that.

The $500 billion Stargate AI project, announced by President Trump, faces challenges with delays and internal disagreements between SoftBank and OpenAI partners. The project has scaled back near-term goals to building a single data center by year-end, as per The Wall Street Journal report.
