ZBD, a payment solutions provider for interactive entertainment, has secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence in the Netherlands after approval under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) in December 2024. The EMI licence allows ZBD to issue fiat electronic money, provide debit cards, and offer virtual IBANs for individuals and businesses.

With the EMI licence, ZBD can now offer a range of fiat and cryptocurrency services across the European Economic Area (EEA). COO Marca Wosoba highlighted the importance of the licence in their goal to become the next-gen PSP for interactive entertainment, combining Bitcoin-based solutions with traditional fiat services for a comprehensive financial ecosystem in the EEA.

ZBD has partnered with ClearBank to act as its banking partner in the EU and EEA, managing operational and safeguarding accounts to integrate Euro and Bitcoin balances for ZBD’s EU user base. ClearBank Europe COO Ezequiel Canestrari emphasized the collaboration’s commitment to providing secure, scalable, and forward-thinking solutions to support ZBD’s growth and innovation in fintech products.
