Polish refiner Orlen has officially stopped purchasing Russian oil for its refineries, eliminating its reliance on Russian energy resources. This decision followed the expiration of their last contract for Russian crude oil in June 2025, with all refineries now exclusively supplied with oil from sources outside of Russia. Orlen has diversified its oil procurement to regions like the Middle East, Persian Gulf, North Sea, Africa, and the Americas, aligning with the EU’s strategy to reduce dependence on Russian energy imports. The European Commission has proposed a phased withdrawal of Russian gas and oil imports by 2027 to achieve full energy independence from Russia.
