Automotive seating manufacturer Adient is investing over $8 million to create at least 75 jobs next to Rivian’s plant in Normal, Ill. This move is supported by a state incentive program for EV manufacturers. Adient operates over 200 plants globally and serves major automakers like the Detroit 3, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Rivian, a success in Illinois’ EV manufacturing push, employs over 8,000 people and plans to make a smaller SUV. Another Rivian supplier, Gotion, is opening a battery facility in Manteno, expected to employ up to 2,600 people. However, the EV industry faces challenges as federal EV rebates are set to expire soon.
