Sugar Prices Drop Due to Favorable Weather in Brazil, Global Surplus
Sugar prices closed lower on Tuesday due to the removal of frost risk in Brazil and a stronger dollar. The monsoon season in India has boosted sugar crop outlooks, contributing to the global sugar surplus. India, Brazil, and Thailand all project increased sugar production, leading to lower prices.
India’s government has eased sugar export restrictions, while the ISMA predicts a decrease in sugar production. Thailand’s sugar production is up, but Brazil has seen a decrease due to weather conditions. The International Sugar Organization forecasts a global sugar deficit, tightening the market after a surplus.
The USDA projects record global sugar production and consumption for 2025/26, with increased ending stocks. Despite these projections, sugar prices are impacted by various factors globally, including weather conditions and export regulations.
