Apple has partnered with TuneIn to distribute its six Apple Music radio stations globally, reaching 75 million monthly active users outside of Apple’s app ecosystem. This marks the first time these stations will be available beyond Apple’s platforms. Apple aims to convert TuneIn listeners into Apple Music subscribers through redirect links. Apple’s U.S. music streaming market share declined to 25% in 2024, down from 30% in 2020, while Spotify rose to 37%. The radio stations are commercial-free and human-curated, setting them apart from Spotify’s algorithm-driven curation. Apple first launched radio in 2015 and currently operates six stations.
AAPL is expanding Apple Music’s global reach in an effort to regain market share in music streaming, while SPOT, Apple’s main rival with a 37% U.S. market share, could potentially be affected by Apple’s expanded distribution.
