Bluesight has launched ShortageCheck technology to help hospitals manage drug inventories. It uses real-time data and predictive analytics to forecast shortages, offering up to a 90-day lead time. This tool aims to ensure uninterrupted access to essential medications for caregivers and patients across over 2,500 US facilities.
ShortageCheck by Bluesight provides early warning signs of drug shortages, with an average lead time of 42 days. It assesses inventory levels, usage rates, and days-on-hand to help healthcare institutions prepare and adapt their inventory management strategies. The platform also offers insights into the potential impact of each shortage and facilitates cross-team coordination and planning.
Bluesight CEO Kevin MacDonald emphasized the importance of managing shortages, stating it has been a critical pain point for customers. ShortageCheck is part of Bluesight’s suite of hospital intelligence solutions, which includes tools to restock inventory quicker, reduce drug expenditure, streamline audit preparations, pinpoint drug diversion, and protect patient privacy. This launch comes as a response to rising drug costs, staff shortages, and impending medicare reimbursement changes.
In January, Bluesight expanded its capabilities by acquiring Protenus, a healthcare compliance analytics platform provider. ShortageCheck aims to address critical challenges in hospital inventory management, offering a proactive solution to improve operations and patient care outcomes.
