British co-operative group Co-op plans to deploy electronic shelf-edge labels (ESELs) in over 1,600 convenience stores by year-end, aiming to equip all 2,300-plus stores by 2026. The ESELs use NFC technology for easy membership sign-ups and access to benefits. Currently, 700 Co-op stores have electronic labels. This move will enhance product information, reduce paper waste, and improve the shopping experience. Co-op partnered with VusionGroup to transition from paper to electronic labels, facilitating store operations and keeping customers updated on savings and deals. The rollout is expected to transform the retail industry.
