The Mexican Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) has approved Pan American Silver’s acquisition of MAG Silver’s shares, with a total consideration of $2.1bn. The transaction is set to conclude by 4 September 2025 after securing all necessary regulatory, shareholder, and court approvals. Shareholders have until 27 August to choose their payment option.

The offer for MAG Silver’s shares includes $500m in cash and the rest in Pan American shares, representing a premium of 21–27% over the closing and 20-day average price as of 9 May 2025. In related news, Unico Silver entered into an agreement last year to take over Pan American’s projects in Argentina, including the Joaquin Silver District.

COFECE’s approval of Pan American Silver’s acquisition of MAG Silver marks the final regulatory endorsement needed for the $2.1bn deal. Shareholders have until 27 August to decide between cash or a combination of cash and Pan American shares. Additionally, Unico Silver is set to take over Pan American’s projects in Argentina, including the Joaquin Silver District.
